Korea is to improve water quality, to restore ecosystems, and to create multipurpose
spaces for local residents and regional development centered on rivers. Through this
project, by 2012, the water quality of the mainstream will be improved and the
ecological rivers, wetlands will be restored and the farmland will be readjusted to
rehabilitate the ecosystem. Rivers will turn into multipurpose areas for lifestyle,
leisure, tourism, cultural activities. Moreover, green growth projects including Clean-
IT sensors to manage the river environment and disasters, digital tour system, and
small hydropower power plants are also promoted. This paper will evaluate the
various projects and provide the political implications.
