Water-borne enteric viruses are one of the major causes of acute gastroenteritis in human. There are many kinds of water-borne enteric viruses such as enterovirus, rotabvirus, norovirus, hepatitis A virus and so one. In this study, we attempted to find norovirus (NV) type GI and GII, and hepatitis A virus (HAV) based on reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in 273 surface water samples collected from 2005 to 2010. NV GI was detected in 14 samples (5.1%) and NV GII in 5 samples (1.8%). By conducting BLASTN analysis using database in GenBank, it was found that NV type GI and GII were mainly genotype GI-5 and 6 (64.3%) and genotype GII-4 (60%), respectively. Most NV type GI were originated from Asian region (78.6%), including Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. NV GII were originated from Korea (80%) and China (20%). In case of HAV, the viruses were detected in only 3 samples (1.1%) and their origins were from Korea and Europe. |
