As a dam contains a large amount of water, in the event of collapse, it may bring about a great deal of damage to lives and properties so that it must secure sufficient structural stability against various load conditions. Because of this, modern dam designers, when determining the specifications (mainly height and length) and type (fill dam, concrete dam, or complex dam) of a dam to be constructed, examine the geographical and geological conditions, hydrographical and hydrological conditions, and earthquake control conditions, study the dynamic properties of materials to be used for construction, and review with a numerical analysis method. Especially when executing a numerical analysis for the cross-section and load conditions of selected dam, the use of accurate physical parameters is critical to predict the behaviour of the dam so that corresponding issues can be drawn and the design or construction plan can be supplemented ultimately to construct a stable dam. |
