Applications of HRMS to Non-POP Pesticides in the Surface water |

Non-POP pesticides such as chlorpyrifos, methoxychlor, alachlor and related compounds in surface water samples were determined by high resolution gas chromatography/high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS) with solid phase(SPE) or liquid-liquid extraction(LLE) method. Isotopically labeled analogs of non-POP pesticides were used to quantification. The detection limits and quantitation levels are usually dependent on the sample volume. Method detection limits for 2 - 10 ng/L were observed in SPE method for 0.5 - 1 L volume. Small volume LLE for 0.05 L sample volume are applicable for some pesticides in spraying season. Use of auto vial shaker in small volume LLE method provided simultaneous high sample throughputs up to 50 samples. Some pesticides were widely detected in the surface water between 2009 and 2010. Higher concentrations for these compounds were observed in highly populated area than source water area. The use of high resolution MS with optimised extraction method offers a increased significantly sensitivity and the certainty of the results in cases needs low level detections. |
