In BNR(Biological Nutrient Removal) processes, operating conditions which include microorganisms, temperature and toxicity affect effluent. It is the most important that one of the considerations is wastewater concentration for the wastewater treatment plant to keep permissible discharge standards. Especially, C/N and C/P ratio are important factors to manage STPs(Sewage Treatment Plants).
Ministry of Environment installed TMS(Tele Monitoring System) to monitor effluent water quality at all times. In order to keep permissible discharge standards and operate STP efficiently, most STP operators need real-time wastewater monitoring systems but they are considered measured data once in a day as general daily data and operate to depend on them and their know-how. However, the monitoring system of wastewater to the STP is not installed for several reasons like the cost of the instruments or the management circumstances. There are operating merely pH, ORP, DO sensors in the most Korean STPs. In order to keep discharge standards, STPs should be installed influent measuring equipments or monitoring systems for the changeable operation by variable influences. Thus, the process can be optimized by checking the wastewater in real time. Due to these reasons, K-water institute has developed on-line wastewater monitoring system and applide the software sensor at a full-scale STP.
