| Development of a Decision Support System for Dam Reservoir Water Quality Management |

Multi-purpose dam reservoirs in Korea are supposed to be regulated by TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) in 2012. Multi-purpose dam owner, K-water is preparing the watershed planning to meet the TMDL taking the reduction of pollution sources by land use change and building more waste water treatment into account. Also dam operators are facing turbid water problems during the flood season in summer and Algal bloom problems right after the flood every year. Also recent reservoir operation is taking the water quality into account as well as quantity. Watershed planning and water quality management require lots of analysis and a series of decision making. A prototype decision support system for dam reservoir water quality management has been developed and applied to the Yongdam Multi-purpose Dam Reservoir and verified its applicability. |
