It was designed, creating portal part to protect a natural vertical slope that was constructed of tunnel; a spillway type for increasing flood control of the Dae-am dam. In general, the portal part of tunnel has to be designed with perpendicular type; however the outlet of portal part of the Daeam dam was designed with inter-cross type to keep out of river flow. Also, the cutting slope of outlet had been originally designed with 63 degrees and about 65m in height. Impossible cutting part of the slope is investigated for approaching the machine to work at that site. In order to establish stability of tunnel and be harmonized with natural environment, the geological surface
survey and analysis of slope stability are carried out. Also, a possible method for tunnel excavation
to keep up a natural slope is designed and construct. First, as removing floating rock, a high tensile
tension net is installed for prevention against release of some rocks and safe of excavation of tunnel.
Owing to the unbalanced earth-pressure, a natural slope is impossible to construct the portal part.
The construction of artificial ground in upper tunnel due to these reasons take arching effects and
the excavation of tunnel was eventually carried out. After forming artificial ground, anti-vibration
Super Wedge and control blasting method make the face free, a blasting of the central part were
applied to minimize the impact caused by ground vibration from excavation of the artificial ground.
