The flow regime with multiphase in the sump station could be analyzed due to the rapid development of the computer performance and the advanced modeling technology. The flow field of in the sump station is difficult to analysis because of the physically complex features as like turbulence, the cavitation or Karman Vortex (Ryuichiro (2002), TSJ code (2005), HI code (1995)). Generally experiment is accompanied by lots of time and expense to visualize the vortex phenomena. However, the quantitative analysis or the establishment of database with the sump field through the CFD is very important as a substitute tool instead of the experiment and to understand the physical characteristics whether vortex is occurring or not. CFD is a powerful methodology which is applied in the field of fluid flow and heat transfer through the mathematical modeling, and it has widely applicable possibility for the techanical engineering, the aerospace, and environment problem. Thus, the objective of this study is to compare the experimental results related the sump model test with the CFD analysis results and to investigate the reliability of the studies in evaluating the occurring transient 3D vortex mechanism. Furthermore, it aims to prepare the valuating criteria of the stabilities in the sump station using the CFD analysis. Ansys-CFX10 with the various turbulence model and the mesh shape, were employed to derive the high spatial resolution of mesh and the accurate analysis results. Also, it reviewed that "Which is the optimized turbulence model to evaluate the recurrence possibilities of the free surface vortex in the sump flow?" 1. If the appropriate mesh resolutions are at least guaranteed, it is possible to visualize the recurrence of the free surface vortex regardless of the mesh type. |
