Angye dam is a 32,5m high, central core type earth-fill dam constructed in 1971. In June 1985, 15 years after the impounding of the reservoir the leakage observed at two areas in downstream slope, one near the right abutment and the other near the middle part, both at the same level. Due to the short chimney filter, the water seeping through the upper core zone cannot be collected to the filter. In fact, the observed phreatic line passes over the top of the filter. An investigation was performed to find out the possible causes of the leakage before the primary remedial works. |
