The water supply network still plays a key role in human civilization and public health. Accordingly, this study presents an efficient design methodology (improved harmony search algorithm) in terms of budget effectiveness while satisfying all the design constraints. The harmony search model in this study adopts a new operation (ensemble consideration) in addition to the existing three operations (memory consideration, pitch adjustment, and random selection). When compared with other phenomenon-mimicking algorithms, such as genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, tabu search, ant colony optimization, and shuffled frog leaping, the harmony search algorithm obtained the best design in terms of design cost and computing burden. The reason why the ensemble consideration performed well is also described. |
