This study included the application of the analytical method for determining bromate in sea water sample. The analytical method was the one that was adopted by the Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare of Japan. This method included post column reaction for UV detection of bromate that reacted with post column reagents. This method is originally for drinking water sample. With conductivity detection using ion chromatography there was a problem of the interference of large amount of chloride for detecting bromate in sea water sample but adopting the Japanese method we could solve the problem of chloride interference. When the artificial sea water sample was run, the bromate peak showed tailing phenomenon. We could solve this problem by Ag-cartridge pretreatment. The LOD(Limit of Detection) was 24 ㎍/L and the RSD(Relative Standard Deviations) were about 1.5 % for peak area and 0.015 % for retention time  This method showed good reproducibility and reliability. It was identified that the appilicability of this method could extented to other oxyhalide disinfection by-products.
