This study investigated the role of an ozone process in drinking water treatment plant combining with a DAF process. In order to select the best position of the ozone process, batch-mode experiments were performed with several water samples, such as raw water, DAF treated water and anthracite filtrate water collected from the S plant, which is the first drinking water treatment plant combining with DAF process in Korea. The tested samples were ozonated investigating several key parameters for the evaluation of the ozone process, such as ozone decay rate, ozone-CT (product of ozone concentration, mg/L and contract time, min) and OH radical-CT (product of OH radial concentration, M and contact time, sec). As a result, the higher values of both ozone-CT and OH radical-CT were obtained from the DAF treated water as compared to the other sample. This indicates that the best position of the ozone process in the drinking water treatment plant might be in outflow of the DAF process. Therefore, this study investigated the ozone combined with DAF process (ozoflotation) in the pilot-scale experiment. The ozone was directly injected into the DAF pump instead of air injection. The ozone combined with DAF process revealed the good efficiencies for removing several organic parameters (UV absorbance at 254 nm, dissolved organic carbon and haloacetic acid) and Geosmin and 2-MIB and did not affect the efficiencies for reducing turbidity and particles of the DAF alone process. |
