| Ecological Impact Evaluation in the Downstream of Regulated River System |

This study was performed to understand Korean regulated river system. In Korea, the type of regulated river divided to discharge regulation by dam and water diversion by tunnel. These rivers influenced by upstream dams, known as regulated rivers, may manifest the influence of the damming for many. The rivers are also much affected by whether the dam has a surface discharge or a deep release discharge. A surface discharge permits the export of large quantities of organic and inorganic matters such as plankton, nutrients to the receiving downstream. But, the export are commonly much reduced in dams with a deep release discharge. Particularly, we wished to suggest importance of accumulation of fine sediment and increase riparian vegetation in the lower part of regulated river below dam. |
