This study is based on the withdrawals of nutrient-rich bottom waters while surface outflows are dammed excepting flood seasons to control the reservoir storage.Daecheong Reservoir constructed December 1980, one of deep and large reservoirs in Korea located at about 150 km upstream form the estuary in Geum River Basin. The Daecheong reservoir is introduced and characterized and then effects on eutrophication decreasing by hypolimnion discharge through the penstocks to generate the electric power are studied by combining: (i) monitoring of major water quality indicators in both the reservoir water and the ouflow discharge from penstocks; (ii) dissolved element concnetration measurement. |
