The Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-WATER) has established a new geotechnical centrifuge facility at the Korea Institute of Water and Environment of K-WATER, Daejeon, Korea,in March, 2007. The paper describes the special features of the machine and its applicability to dams. The K-WATER geotechnical centrifuge has a radius of 8.0 m and is capable of carrying a 7,500 kg payload at up-to 80 g, and includes a uniaxial hydraulic servo shaker for simulating seismic motion and various model preparation equipments such as automatic sand rainer, vacuum clay mixer, in-flight hydraulic loading unit, laminar box and so on. |
