We investigated the Long-term changes in the water quality of Lake Sihws, Korea after
construction of a tide embankment in Lake Sihwa during 1994~2004. In 1997, the
concentration of CODмn has critically increased, recording the highest concentration
(17.4mg/L). After executing Water Quality Improvement Plan, especially due to the
seawater inflowing into the Lake Sihwa by sluice gate operation, the concentration of
CODмn has dramatically declined to 5.8mg/L in 2004. Now the water quality of Lake
Sihwa has been greatly improved than before. Therefore, to improve of water quality in
Lake Sihwa, we need to establish a management plan about nutrient release from
sediment, rainfall runoff, and the maximum introduceing rate of seawater into the
lake.
