About ‘Expansion of water welfare’ project

A project for providing clean and safe water stably to residents in farming and fishing village where have poor quantity and quality of water and isolated areas with limited water

※ Isolated areas with limited water : Places where around 5% of the whole nation reside, using underground water which has not been treated appropriately, from well, personal tube well, small drinking water system, and small-sized water supply facilities

Problems in isolated area with limited water
  • Areas using well/personal tube well (820,000 people, 1.6%)
  • Insufficient water quality management, exposed to pollution source at all times, exclusion from government policies
  • ※ Standard of drinking water quality exceeding around 40 to 50%, detecting nitrate nitrogen and coliform group
  • Ares using small drinking water system/small-sized water supply facilities (1.55 million people, 3.0%)
  • - Poor stability in water usage compared to normal waterworks due to short quantity, polluted water, deteriorated facilities, and insufficient management
  • - ’97 village water systems exceeded radioactivity standard in 2013, inflow of poisonous substance into drinking water system in  Hongseong-gun in Chungcheongnam-do

  • Improvement of village water system/ small-sized water supply facilities
  • - Expansion of direct supply to wide waterworks
  • - Expansion of  service area of local water service
  • Improvement of well and personal tube well
  • - Inland area : Expansion of joint water supply facilities in villages
  • - Insular  areas : Development of suitable water resources such as ground-water dam, seawater desalination, and rainwater
  • - Reinforcement of management of tube well containing drinking water
  • Supporting costs for installing water supply facilities
  • - Providing residents using well or personal tube well in water service area with costs for installing water supply facilities
Future vision of Expansion of water welfare’
  • Nation : Improvement of life environment in farming and fishing village with stable supply of clean water
  • - Stable water supply to areas where use well or personal tube well and get poor water service (820,000 people,1.6% of the entire population)
  • Government : Contribution to reduction of national budget and realization of government projects
  • - Project that directly supplies water through wide waterworks can save approximately 36% of business expenses compared to that being implemented by Ministry of Environment at present
  • - Government project “Improvement of quality of environmental service– Expanded supply of clean and safe water”
