Only 1 to 6% of people drink tap water in Korea. The main cause of such distrust in tap water is a vague anxiety in drinking tap water, mistrust in cleanliness of water pipe and tank, and smell of disinfectant and a lot of social costs occur due to such issues.
Advanced countries including Japan do their utmost to provide delicious and healthy tap water at present and Korean nation’s standard of selecting drinking water is changing from water simply unharmful to human body to that with good taste and healthiness.

(work cooperation between departments) Since main agents that manage wide waterworks and local water services are dualized into K-Water and local government, it is required to divide roles and construct a cooperation system between organizations on facilities being managed by local governments.
(development of technique) It is required to develop economical techniques that can establish a standard of appropriate mineral content through a cooperation with the medical world and analyze and monitor the condition of water quality in each stage of tap water supply.

For preparing the foundation for national trust in tap water by suggesting a model on ‘Supply of water beneficial to human body’, K-Water plans to implement ‘demonstration project’ in Gyoha District in Paju where has the most favorable pipe linenet among water supply facilities being consigned and operated by other local governments from April 2014.
K-Water aims to expand ‘Supply of water beneficial to human body’ in stages, cooperating with other relevant organizations such as Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Environment, and local governments on the basis of the effects of such demonstration project and the results of development and application of related techniques.
