Francis turbines show the considerable different hydraulicperformance and flow phenomenon according to the operatingconditions. The vortex rope with precession and complicatedflow can be generated as the cavitation phenomenon in the drafttube of the Fr ancis turbine under low flowrate conditions. Suchvortex flow phenomenon can affect the stabilizing operation,resulting in reduced hydraulic performance. Therefore, forstabilizing operations of the turbine without such problems, theunderstanding of vort ex and complicated flow phenomenon isessential. Meanwhile, the anti cavity fins are often installed inthe draft tube cone to suppress the vortex under off designconditions. In this study, the influences of the anti cavity fins inthe draft tube cone on the hydraulic performance and the flowcharacteristics of the Francis turbine were investigated underoff design conditions. In addition, the internal flow phenomen awere compared by considering with and without the anti cavityfin application. The three d imensional steady state Reynoldsaveraged Navier Stokes were performed using shear stresstransport turbulence model to observe the effect of the anticavity fins. The vortex phenomen a were decreased and velocitycomponents were changed in the draft tube c one by applying theanti cavity fins. |
