The Rising Sector Gates which will be built for the purpose of controlling water levels and discharging low-rise deposit in the rivers are being introduced to the 4-River Restoration Project in Korea for the first time. They are currently in the designing and manufacturing stage. They have longitudinally splitted cylinder shapes. For operation, they rotate around both sides of the axis to make overflow and underflow streams. Generally, the procedure of the gate design is performed using a basic design, 2-dimensional structural calculation, and numerical analysis. In this design case, when the water level and load conditions were given, structural and scale decisions were made. Then using the FEM(Finite Element Method), the stress and strain of elements was analysed for examination of structural stability. Flow pattern analysis which measures the velocity and pressure field around gate was performed by using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) for stability by various flow patterns. Finally, the vibration analysis of the gates was performed using vibration frequency which was driven from time history pressure analysis through CFD for resonance investigation. |
