The ice harbor fishway, located in downstream of Jangheung dam, had been monitored to determine its efficiency for fish migration from 2004 to 2008. In order to evaluate temporal variation of fish movement, fish traps were installed at the top of the fishway during 24 hours, and then a number of fish and a number of species were counted. In addition, fish monitoring was sometimes done in every 3-hour during 24 hours to determine daily variation of fish movement. A total of 9 families and 30 species of fish were found swimming through the fishway, most of them were Cyprinidae (66.7%). There were nine Korean endemic species (30%) and one introduced species confirmed in monitoring.More fish tended to swim through the fishway at sunset (18 to 21 pm) and during the period that water temperature was high (June~October). Even though a number of monitoring attempt was low in 2005, a number of species found was the minimum in 2008. Compared to the result in 2004, a number of species in 2008 was decreased, but dominance was increased. It is very important to do periodic and systematic monitoring of fish in order to determine any negative effect by dam construction or operation. |
