Establishment of Smart Water Management System at Accra Water Supply, Ghana
The Smart Water Management Pilot Project in Accra is an initiative between South Korea and Ghana aimed at improving urban water systems through advanced digital solutions. As Ghana’s capital, Accra faces ongoing challenges in water distribution, including high non-revenue water (NRW) losses, outdated infrastructure, and increasing demand. This project seeks to enhance the efficiency of water supply operations while ensuring a more reliable and sustainable distribution network.
The project will introduce real-time water quality monitoring, smart metering, and leak detection systems to improve water management capabilities. By utilizing IoT-based sensors and digital monitoring tools, the system will optimize supply operations, reduce water losses, and improve service delivery to residents. The integration of data-driven decision-making will further support long-term planning and infrastructure upgrades.
As a pioneering smart water initiative in Ghana, this project is expected to demonstrate the benefits of digital water management and encourage broader adoption across other urban areas. The initiative not only strengthens Ghana’s water security and infrastructure resilience but also reinforces the collaborative partnership between Ghana and South Korea in sustainable development and smart technology applications.
