A certain level of sustained salinity in agricultural freshwater can make crop growth difficult through water resource use. Our study was conducted to investigate the spatial and temporal characteristics of low salinity in a small reclaimed agricultural man-made lake located near the central west coast of South Korea from October 2020 to April 2022. The salinity distribution during this study ranged from 0.1 to 0.9 psu. Above all, low salinity had a sensitive effect on the changes of specific electrical conductivity and pH in water. Spatially, the tendency to increase from riverine area to lacustrine zone was remarkable. On the other hand, seasonally, the value was slightly higher during periods of low hydrometeorological variability. Additionally, natural environmental external stimulate factor for salinity elevation in the reservoir was related to the coastal tidal cycle. The period with the relatively high concentration in the reservoir showed a somewhat lagging characteristic compared to the time of the maximum height of the tide. It is presumed that these spatiotemporal salinity changes can directly or indirectly affect various physicochemical and biological water quality environments. We would like to analyze this in more detail in the future.
